Hello again, fellow readers and fixers! We have some exciting news to share with you today. Gareth is launching Reyt Repair, a new social enterprise on Wednesday 19th October!
Enter Reyt Repair
It aims to fix a broad range of everyday items, such as clothes, furniture and electricals. Volunteers will run workshop sessions from 10am til 4pm on Tuesdays to Saturdays. These sessions will offer a paid service, where you can get your clothes, furniture and electricals fixed. You can find out how it works here. If you just want to show your support through donations, then that’s fine too! They accept donations through Ko-Fi, which you can find out here.
The sessions will operate at Abbeyfield Park House, just like BitFIXit’s own repair cafes! In effect, both sessions will co-exist on Saturdays. Thus, you can still bring your tired or broken computers into our Saturday sessions as normal. However, if you need it repaired quicker, then you can use Reyt Repair’s paid service.
What else will it offer?
Reyt Repair will also support itself by selling donated, repaired, upcycled and recycled items. Doing so helps maintain a circular economy, and stop all kinds of stuff going straight into landfill.
It provides opportunities for local people to acquire new skills through apprenticeships, training and education. In time, this helps them build confidence in repairing things, and get into paid employment.
And in the new year, they will begin to run workshops in repair skills, craft and art activities. Reyt Repair will publish regular newsletters, so you can sign up to keep informed on the latest updates.
This is an exciting development, and you can register your interest in helping out with repairs here. Together, we can all do our bit for the planet! And as always, remember to keep calm and carry on fixing!
